Despite the fact that one Seagate drive has a 0% failure rate, overall we think Seagate and Toshiba drives tend to fail more frequently than HGST and Western Digital drives…which is why we recommend HGST and Western Digital drives to our clients. We think those brands have better reliability overall, and we’ve found that when they fail, they tend to get flakey for a while before they actually fail…which gives you an advance hint that things aren’t working quite right.
